Editors

I’ve found editors can often be very helpful to work with closely. A lot of directors I’ve worked with have a great creative sense and at times also have a surprisingly extensive knowledge of music and how to work with music, finding temp options and helping translate a directors musical intentions to a composer. A great editor, from my experience, seems like aside from arranging blocks of video, are storytellers and can act like a glue between the director and composer (as well as other post departments probably).

This certainly isn’t always the case, I’ve also worked with editors who just did the edit and weren’t involved much aside from that, and I’ve also worked with editors who I didn’t think had a good creative sense or taste. However the projects were I was lucky enough to work with great editors I have to give them some credit for how the score turned out because their ideas, feedback, suggestions, etc. were invaluable!

If you have a great editor on a project, don’t take it for granted, work closely with them and in turn help make their job easier by delivering and working in a way that’s helpful and streamlined to them.
